in Turkana, over 80% of the population lives in absolute poverty
Turkana County is known for its hard-to-reach location, its lack of resources, and its harsh conditions. But it is also home to a community of people full of life, joy, and a determination to make the most of what each day brings. Of women who have big dreams, hopes, and aspirations to build a better life for themselves and their families.
When we opened our workshop here in 2020, we saw a beautiful opportunity to partner with the women in the community to provide dignified work, skills training, access to basic resources such as food and water, childcare, and so much more. We saw that by investing in the women, we could transform whole families and communities in Turkana, empowering individuals to rise above poverty and ultimately break the cycle of generational poverty in Turkana.

In-house Childcare Program
Structured program for artisans’ children to attend during the day while parents work, which includes themed curriculum, field trips, English courses, primary school entrance test preparation, creative crafts and more.
Food Program
Daily well-balanced meal and tea breaks for artisans and their kids enrolled in our childcare program.
Home Visits
Weekly trips to visit artisans and their families, where we check in and present a love offering gift bag.
RISE personal development
(Realize Internal Self Excellence)
Character-building program hosted once per week.
Dream management
Personalized discussions + training in financial budgeting, time management, etc. to help our artisans take steps towards realizing individual goals. Character-building program hosted once per week at each location.
Special events
Birthdays, Monthly theme days, quarterly team building outings, year end celebration, children’s birthday celebrations, vacation bible school, in addition to holiday parties, and cultural field trips
what it means to be an empowerment partner
At Imani Collective, we believe in genuine relationships, human connection, and the power of community. When you sponsor a woman and become their empowerment partner, you will be connected with them, and get to know them as they get to know you.
We will provide you with a profile on your empowerment partner including information about their life, interests, and dreams, and we will also ask you questions so that our artisans can get to know the incredible individuals who are supporting them.
As in everything we do, the heart behind this program is not to be transactional, but transformational. This is about women coming together to cheer each other on and form beautiful, lasting relationships.
